Lewis Hamilton issues frank response as F1 legend quizzed on Christian Horner axe

Lewis Hamilton, Spanish GP, Ferrari, 2025

Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton has offered a frank response when quizzed on Christian Horner's Red Bull axe.

During the break between the British Grand Prix and this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, Red Bull opted for a leadership change, with Horner relieved of his duties as CEO and team principal.

No specific reason was given as to why Horner was removed, but Red Bull have somewhat fallen from grace in recent months and seasons, going from F1's dominant force to an outfit not even in contention for the constructors' championship at the halfway stage of the campaign.

Red Bull have replaced Horner with former Racing Bulls boss Laurent Mekies, whom they now hope will be able to guide the team to success once again.

Lewis Hamilton not paying attention to Christian Horner exit

Ferrari star Lewis Hamilton is not paying any attention to his exit whatsoever, though. At least, that was his answer when quizzed on Horner's departure ahead of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.

"When I’m away from the race weekends, I don’t really pay attention to anything that’s going on in Formula 1 other than what’s happening within our team," Hamilton told the media.

"So, I was neither surprised or not surprised. I was just minding my own business."

Hamilton continued: "Of course, I think when you change CEO or someone that’s running an organisation, they come with their own formula and more often than not, make changes.

"So that’s inevitable - but that takes time."
