Kyle Busch issues NASCAR playoff verdict as star reveals 'biggest fault' of 2025

Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has discussed his chances of making the 2025 playoffs.

Currently, Busch sits 19th in the Cup Series standings and 20th in the playoff chase, 63 points below the cut line.

Of course, a victory would see the No. 8 driver lock himself into the postseason, but with no win in the Cup Series since 2023, Busch's best chances seem to be to point his way in.

So far, 11 of the 16 playoff spots have been locked up, with 11 different race winners so far this season. This means that five spots remain up for grabs via points, although this number would reduce further if there are any new victors in the remaining nine races of the regular season.

Busch: Pointing way in 'doable'

Whether or not we get any new winners is crucial, according to Busch, who feels that whilst it is doable to point your way in at present, any new victors would make it a 'must-win' if you want to qualify.

“I would say if you find another winner outside, then I would say you’re in a must-win [situation],” Busch told the media at Atlanta.

“I would say right now, today, pointing your way in with no more new winners is certainly doable. Our biggest fault is just not being able to get stage points.

"If we could have a big points day like COTA...COTA-type days for the next eight weeks would put you right back in the thick of things, and we'd be fine, especially if others have issues."

Asked if he had the car to achieve such finishes given the form he and the team are in, Busch added: “Mexico's on me, so I take full accountability for that one."

"Pocono, I would say that we unloaded soft and just kind of stayed that way. We weren't really able to capitalize at any given point in the weekend, so we can't have those.

"Sonoma's been a good track for us, we've been fast there, Indy we were fast there last year, we had a really good shot to finish inside the top three, so I would say there's some places that we can do it."

Busch is set to start Saturday's Quaker State 400 in P29.
