2021 Cup Series champion Kyle Larson has made a shock admission regarding his NASCAR rivals in Mexico City.

The NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series were in action at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this weekend, with the first points-paying race of the modern Cup Series era outside of the United States providing a unique logistical challenge.

This included teams heading to Mexico on chartered flights, and drivers being without their motorhomes, which they normally have at the track.

This has been a positive for Larson, though, who admits that it has been 'really fun' to spend more time than usual with his competitors in hotels and on shuttle buses, which is somewhat surprising given the high intensity of the sport.

“Mexico's been fun. It's a different feeling weekend for us here," Larson told the media.

"We don't have our motor coaches and all that, so we're all kind of put up in the same place. You've got to ride shuttles together.

"It's honestly really fun and enjoyable to be around your competitors and get to know each other a bit better because on a typical weekend, we just kind of lock ourselves in wherever we're at."

Larson continued in a similar vein, although he did admit that things this weekend are likely to be a one-off, and that it's likely to be business as usual at Pocono next weekend.

"We don't talk to anybody or anything," Larson explained further.

"So it's nice that you're almost forced to hang out with each other. It's cool. You get to know them, so I've enjoyed that.

The Hendrick Motorsports star concluded: "I like hanging out with the other drivers, but I don't know how you ban motorhomes and force us to stay at the same hotel in places like Pocono. But it's fun."

Larson went on to finish Sunday's race in Mexico City in X position, having been caught up in an early wreck which forced extensive repair work to his car.
