Editorial principles & ethics

The GPFans.com editorial team works with clear and transparent journalistic guidelines. Our articles are carefully produced, checked and published by experienced editors with knowledge of Formula 1 and journalistic standards. We place great value on independence, reliability and integrity — the core principles of our journalism.

Our principles

Our journalism is built on three pillars: facts, context and trust. Every publication on GPFans.com meets these requirements:

  • Factual accuracy: news is published only after sources and facts have been carefully verified.
  • Context: we provide background and explanation so readers understand why something happens, not only what happens.
  • Trust: we communicate openly about how we work and correct mistakes visibly and transparently.

Independence

  • The editorial team operates fully independently.
  • Editorial decisions are made exclusively by the editorial team.
  • Commercial partnerships or advertising partners do not influence our content.
  • When content is commercial in nature, this is clearly stated, for example with a label or disclaimer.

We do not favour or oppose specific teams, drivers, team principals or organisations. Our goal is balanced, fair and factual coverage of Formula 1 news.

Fact-checking

Fact-checking is a fixed part of our editorial process. Before an article is published, it is checked for accuracy, completeness and source attribution.

How we work:

  • We use reliable primary sources, such as official team and FIA channels, recognised news agencies and direct interviews.
  • When we report rumours, we clearly label them as such and provide context.
  • If information is in doubt, we postpone publication until verification has taken place.
  • Statistics, figures and quotes are double-checked by a second editor.
  • If information later proves incorrect, we publish a visible correction and explain what has been changed.

Use of sources

Careful handling of sources is essential to our credibility.

  • When using external information, we always state the origin.
  • Where possible, we verify information with multiple independent sources.
  • We do not copy reports from anonymous or non-verifiable sources without additional evidence.
  • Interviews are published only with the consent of the interviewee or their representative.
  • Our source attribution enables readers to assess the reliability of a report for themselves.

Ethics and social responsibility

We support responsible and respectful publishing. Our editors work in line with the Dutch Journalistic Code (NDP) and apply the following standards:

  • We do not publish sensational or misleading headlines.
  • We avoid hateful, racist, sexist or discriminatory language.
  • We respect the privacy of drivers, team members and fans, unless there is a clear public interest.
  • We strive for balanced reporting that includes different perspectives.
  • All content is created, checked and published by humans. AI tools may be used for support, never as a replacement for editorial control.

Acting ethically means taking responsibility for what we publish and being open to criticism or corrections.

Corrections and feedback

Even with careful processes, mistakes can happen. We appreciate readers pointing out possible errors or unclear information.

  • Corrections are made quickly and transparently.
  • When an article is updated, we always state the date and nature of the change.

Feedback can be sent to [email protected]. For more information, see our Corrections page.

Accountability

With these guidelines we explain how we work, how decisions are made and how we handle responsibility and trust. Our goal is to inform readers based on facts, professionalism and passion for Formula 1.
