NASCAR has confirmed that Josh Berry will not be penalized for wrecking Carson Hocevar at Sonoma on Sunday.

Trackhouse Racing star Shane van Gisbergen came out victorious in the Toyota/Save Mart 350, but there was plenty to talk about after the 110 laps of action other than his win.

One thing on everyone's lips was the incident between Berry and Hocevar, with the Wood Brothers Racing driver having wrecked his rival, potentially intentionally, at Sonoma.

Hocevar is usually the driver under scrutiny in such scenarios, rubbing up several of his fellow Cup Series drivers the wrong way so far this season, but this time, the No. 77 found itself the victim of a wreck, rather than the perpetrator.

With just three laps to go at Sonoma Raceway, the pair were eighth and ninth, respectively, but Berry decided to wreck his rival, with it looking as though it was done intentionally.

Josh Berry avoids penalty

If NASCAR deemed Berry's move on Hocevar to have been an intentional wreck, the Wood Brothers Racing driver could have found himself punished when this week's penalty report dropped.

However, a punishment for Berry was not revealed in the report, meaning that the Wood Brothers Racing driver will go unpunished.

This comes despite there having been multiple occasions this season that NASCAR has punished drivers for intentional wrecks, including in the Cup Series.

Following March's race at the Circuit of the Americas, for example, NASCAR deemed Austin Cindric to have intentionally wrecked another vehicle under Sections 4.4 B&D: NASCAR Member Code of Conduct Penalty Options and Guidelines when he right-rear hooked Ty Dillon.

As a result, the Team Penske driver was docked 50 driver points and was fined $50,000.

A similar punishment was handed out following the Xfinity Series race at Martinsville in April, with Sammy Smith punished for intentionally wrecking Taylor Gray on that occasion.

Like Cindric, Smith was docked 50 driver points for his role in the incident, and was also fined $25,000.
