Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton has revealed he regrets making derogatory comments regarding Red Bull during his time with Mercedes.

Hamilton spent 12 seasons with the Silver Arrows before his switch to Ferrari for the 2025 season, enjoying a dominant spell with the team in which he won six of his seven world championships.

Now, as rumors over a Mercedes move for Max Verstappen grow, Hamilton was asked if he would advise a move to the team to his fellow champion.

Hamilton admitted he would, but was keen to ensure he didn't put Red Bull down, reeling back on comments he made in the past.

"Of course," Hamilton told the media including GPFans at the British Grand Prix.

"I mean, he's coming from a great team. Many, many years ago, I was so die-hard Mercedes at the time, and I remember saying something about Red Bull being ‘only a drinks company’ and I’ve always regretted it.”

Hamilton: Red Bull have been incredible

Hamilton continued, reflecting on his naivety having dismissed Red Bull's potential, adding: "I was just saying that Mercedes were great at the time,"

"But the truth is, Red Bull have been an incredible team, there’s so many people there that are exceptional and they’ve dominated for years."

The conversation continued, with Hamilton admitting that he will be interested to see what happens regarding the rumored Verstappen-Mercedes switch.

"What I can say if anyone was going to ask me about Mercedes is [it’s] an amazing team also," the now Ferrari star continued.

"With naturally the passion, they've got great personnel, it’s a great factory, great environment to work in.

"It will be interesting to see what happens."
