NASCAR insider has 'no confidence' in Chase Elliott despite Atlanta win

A leading NASCAR expert has poured cold water on hopes of a comeback after a popular victory last weekend.

2020 Cup Series champ Chase Elliott took the win at Atlanta this weekend, securing a playoff spot that was almost certainly his on points anyway, having not finished outside the top 20 in a single race all year.

The Athletic's Jordan Bianchi pointed out that Elliott's team-mates Kyle Larson and William Byron have been notably stronger than the 2020 champ in the last couple of years, with Atlanta just his second since Talladega in 2022.

Bianchi warned that the No. 9 team has continually underperformed since Elliott's points title in 2022, and have failed to fulfil their potential.

Bianchi: I don't have confidence in Elliott's team

Speaking on The Teardown after the weekend's race at Altanta, Bianchi said: "I don't know if it's enough and it's just, it's not either way it's still I think it's, it's fair to say that this team is not fulfilling its potential.

"It's great that they won but winning one race last year zero races in 2023 and just one race right now like is that is that good enough for being [up there]."

He continued: "I don't feel like, I don't have the confidence in them that they're ready to do that. I don't see them rolling off like if this team has a bad race and they're in a point hole and they've got to go and win a race to advance do you feel confident enough that they could do that? I don't."
