NASCAR star Denny Hamlin reveals awesome story behind name of new baby son

NASCAR Cup Series star Denny Hamlin has revealed the awesome story behind the name that he and fiancée Jordan Fish came up with for their new baby son.

Hamlin missed Cup Series action in Mexico City due to the birth of the pair's third child last weekend, but has returned to the No. 11 car for this weekend's race at Pocono.

Ahead of the event, the 44-year-old shared a heartfelt post introducing his new child to the world, revealing that he and Fish had named their newborn Jameson.

"Born June 11th, 8 lbs 4 oz, 22 ¾ inches," Hamlin wrote on Instagram. "The road to meeting him wasn’t easy… but he’s home, he’s perfect, and his sisters can’t get enough of him. Our hearts have never been so full.

"Introducing our son…Jameson Drew Hamlin🤎."

Denny Hamlin opens up on baby naming

Now, Hamlin has been quizzed on how he and his fiancée came up with the name, and it's a pretty cool story.

The Joe Gibbs Racing star, whose full name is James Dennis Alan Hamlin, revealed that his own name played a part, as did his racing journey.

“I’m James, that’s James’s son, Jameson," Hamlin said on naming his child, via Claire B Lang.

"And Drew, we wanted to keep J.D. as part of it," Hamlin added. "J.D. Gibbs was a big part of getting here to the Cup Series.

"James Dean was the car owner I drove for in late models that got me the equipment to win all of those races to get seen by J.D. Gibbs. I’m J.D., so we are just keeping it going.”
