Sonoma security guard charged after alleged assault at NASCAR event

A security guard at Sonoma Raceway has reportedly been charged with assault for an incident at last weekend's Sunday’s NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350.

27-year old Alexander Rosiles, of Stockton, is accused of assaulting sprint car racer Chase Johnson, who has used a wheelchair since being paralyzed in a crash last year.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, it was claimed that Johnson and his wife Hayley were attempting to reach a handicap parking area when Rosiles denied them entry, first telling them to leave the area before demanding that they remain where they were.

After that, she claimed, the security guard shoved Johnson, flipping his wheelchair backwards and causing him to hit his head on the pavement, losing consciousness for several seconds.

Assault accused on $35,000 bail

According to the Press Democrat, the Sheriff's Office said of the incident: “The guard pushed the victim, causing his wheelchair to tip over, resulting in the victim losing consciousness and sustaining injuries."

Rosiles made a brief appearance in court in Sonoma County on Tuesday and was charged with assault and battery. A judge set his plea for August 12, and most recent reports at time of claim he remains in custody on $35,000 bail, with prosecutors also alleging a previous assault conviction's terms were violated.

Johnson was seen at the track's medical center before being taken to a local hospital, where he remained overnight.

At the time of his 2024 accident, Johnson had recently made his debut in Kyle Larson's High Limit Racing series, having previously won titles in Outlaw Karts and 360 Winged Sprint Cars.
