Grosjean hopes F1 move on from halo

Romain Grosjean hopes Formula 1 do not stop looking for an alternative safety device to the halo. The Haas driver is the Grand Prix Drivers' Association director and will play a key role in the future direction of safety in F1.

Many drivers have criticised the halo's aesthetic drawbacks and lamenting a perceived safety-first era in the sport, but Grosjean has backed the device's implementation to protect drivers.

But the Frenchman agrees with his fellow drivers that the halo may detract from some of the beauty of F1, especially as it hides the intricate helmet designs of every competitor.

IndyCar are continuing to develop an aeroscreen, which was seen in F1 on a Ferrari and Red Bull, and Grosjean hopes the halo is not seen as the ultimate solution.

"I hope the Halo is a transition phase and we are going to find something better," Grosjean told Crash.net.

"This is stage one. You can get used to driving with the Halo, that is fine, but there is one thing that I'm not concerned about but I find it sad that we don't see the drivers anymore.

"At the end of the day there is a driver in the car and we've got one helmet livery per year allowed and we don't even see the livery of the helmet so I think something different would be better.

"But again, safety has to come and it is good enough to put on the car."
