Max Verstappen is unsure if the Assen circuit currently used in MotoGP will become suitable to host an event in Formula 1. The Netherlands has not hosted a grand prix since 1985, but Red Bull star Verstappen's rising popularity has reportedly prompted Liberty Media to seek a race in his homeland.

Zandvoort hosted 34 Dutch Grands Prix between 1948 and 1985, but would require upgrading if it were to host F1.

Both MotoGP and the World Superbike championship currently stop off at Assen, but Verstappen believes the venue would also need to be redeveloped.

"It's a bit of a wait," Verstappen told Motorsport.

"I really have no idea, it costs a lot of money in terms of organization, and I do not know where that money should come from, but we'll see it when it's that far.

"I think there must be some changes, also for overtaking, I think the circuit [at Assen] is more built for the MotoGP."

Reports have also suggested that Liberty are looking into introducing a street race in the Netherlands.
