Magnussen wants to race with his dad

Kevin Magnussen has revealed that he has a long-time career goal of racing alongside his father, Jan Magnussen, and thinks that the best opportunity to do so will come at the Rolex 24 Hours race in Daytona as it takes place outwith the F1 calendar.

Jan Magnussen spent one season in Formula One before enjoying more success on the sports car motorsport circuit with Corvette, and claimed victory at Le Mans four times.

Magnussen, meanwhile, currently plies his trade with Haas in F1 and took to the circuit in Barcelona last week for testing. He has confessed that it would be a dream to drive alongside his dad.

"We talk about it all the time. It would be a great experience to have together as father and son. I’d love to make that happen," Magnussen told Crash.net.

"Daytona is a good opportunity because it’s early in the year and it’s not at the same time as Formula 1, so you could do that.

"But let’s see. If I get a chance, then I’ll take it for sure."

If Magnussen were to take part in Le Mans or the Rolex 24 Hours, he would be following in the footsteps of not just his father, but Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll who both took part in the latter at the start of 2018.

Magnussen senior is still racing with Corvette and is in contention to compete in Le Mans again as well as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
