Tsunoda vows to stop swearing after dropping F-bomb on F1 debut
AlphaTauri rookie Yuki Tsunoda has vowed to cut out the bad language after dropping the F-bomb on his official Formula 1 debut.
During FP1 ahead of this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix, Tsunoda could be heard swearing on the team radio, shouting: "Like, come on! I got f***ing traffic!"
The 20-year-old Japanese has vowed to bite his tongue in future. He said: “I always try to be calmer every session because this is my weakest point.
"I decided last year, [because] I was swearing a lot and losing my focus, I am trying to train like this to not swear a lot. But I was a little bit too emotional in free practice one.
“The second session there was no swearing so a good step from free practice one for me as well and it feels good."
Tsunoda went on to perform superbly in practice and has now set himself the ambitious task of reaching Q3 on Saturday and outqualifying team-mate Pierre Gasly.
Following his promotion from F2 in which he finished third in the standings last year, Tsunoda has appeared full of confidence.
After making an immediate impact in testing in which he ended the three days second only to Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, Tsunoda left his mark again in practice as he finished seventh fastest, two places and 0.189secs ahead of Gasly.
Buoyed by his pace, Tsunoda declared his confident aspirations for qualifying.
"Go to Q3 and get a top-eight or top-seven [place]," he said. "That would be great. The main focus for me is to do my best performance and beat my team-mate.
"The car felt very good this morning. This afternoon was pretty good as well.
"I didn’t put it all together on the fastest lap, it was a bit messy, but I think overall a lot of positives so I am pretty excited for qualifying tomorrow.”
