Ocon seeks to exorcise his "bad luck" in Bahrain
Esteban Ocon has urged his side of the Renault garage to forget about its disappointing recent races and “turn their bad luck around” for the season-ending triple-header.
Renault had climbed to third in the championship with two podiums in three races but dropped to fifth after Daniel Ricciardo hit Ocon at the start and the pair collected just one point between them.
Ocon, who also retired from the previous race with a gearbox failure, said: “There’s not much time to feel sorry for ourselves, so I’m determined to have a solid weekend and take some big points at a strategic time of the season.
“I’m definitely feeling motivated after what happened at the last two races. I’ve said it doesn’t feel like we have too much luck on our side of the garage, but I believe it’s in our own hands to turn that around.”
Having climbed to third in the standings, a single point return from the Turkish Grand Prix dropped Renault back to fifth, 18 points behind Racing Point.
A strong performance from Ferrari saw the Italian manufacturer join the battle, the Scuderia now only six points back on Renault and making the fight for third a four-way skirmish.
Given the struggles of Renault in the cold and wet Turkish condition, Ocon is looking forward to a more "conventional" weekend in the heat of Bahrain.
"It’s going to be a little more conventional to have the tyres working back to normal and then it’s up to us to do the best on car set up," he added.
"Bahrain brings some great opportunities for overtaking and it’s also usually a great race for strategy, so let’s see what happens this weekend.
"Turn 1 is the best overtaking spot and Turn 4 is also pretty good. Overall, it’s a cool track, so I’m really looking forward to going there."
