Domenicali "a great choice" to take over as F1 CEO - Seidl
Former Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has been hailed as "a great choice" for the role of Formula 1 CEO.
While it has yet to be officially confirmed, Domenicali is to replace Chase Carey at the end of the season, with the 66-year-old Irish-born American to step down after four years at the helm.
McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl believes F1 has made the right call in bringing in Domenicali, who is currently CEO of Lamborghini and head of the FIA Single-Seater Commission.
"Chase is the CEO at the moment, he's done a sensational job, and he is still doing in order to get Formula 1 ready, together with us, for the future," said Seidl.
"In case Chase decides to step away at some point - or decides that he's simply had enough of all of us - then I think Stefano will definitely be a great choice, and someone we would support a lot to take over this position.
"Personally I've worked together with Stefano at Porsche, when we were working on, let's say, a special project. He helped me quite a lot with his experience in order to work on that.
"I personally rate him very high, not just because of his experience in all these different jobs he's done so far, but I also rate him very, very high as a person, as a character, and as a passionate motorsport guy.
"With all these experiences he's had, running a track at Mugello, doing different jobs at Ferrari, including team principal, being the CEO of Lamborghini, I think he will be a great choice."
Seidl has dismissed concerns that all the top positions in F1 will soon be held by former Ferrari personnel, with Jean Todt currently president of the FIA, and Ross Brawn serving as F1's managing director motorsports.
"No concern at all," insisted Seidl. "As I've said before, I know Stefano very well, and I'm sure he would handle being in that position - if it's actually true as it's not confirmed. He's the right guy to handle that in the right way."
