Perez mystified why Racing Point would change drivers

Sergio Perez has conceded to being at a loss to understand why Racing Point would want to change its driver line-up to accommodate Sebastian Vettel.

Despite the fact Perez has a contract with the team that runs through to the end of 2022, the Mexican is still viewed as the driver likely to make way should four-time champion Vettel be signed.

The Mexican, however, was relaxed while again questioned on his situation ahead of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.

"I think, as I said before, it’s a matter of time," said Perez, with regard to confirmation from the team as to its driver plans.

"As I said in Spain, I feel really happy with the team. I really believe in the project, I’ve been here for a while.

"I’ve seen how the team is going upwards and internally we all feel that everything is working well."

Perez remains confident his contract will be honoured going into next season, and that no-one could do any more in terms of extracting performance from the car this season.

"We don’t see the reasoning why we should change anything so I don’t see any reason to change," insisted Perez, who has been with the team since 2014.

"I think we are enjoying a great season on track and things are working really well in the team. I don’t expect any change."

As to whether he was speaking with any other teams, Perez replied: "No. The feedback I get from the team is that we all want to continue."

Team-mate Lance Stroll, who is expected to retain his seat given father Lawrence owns the team, was edgier with his answers as to the future.

At one stage Stroll was asked whether the fact Racing Point was so far refusing to confirm its line-up was being disrespectful to himself and Perez, he replied: "I'm not going to give you the story that you want to sell.

"There's nothing more to say about that topic."
