Kubica camp 'still fighting' for Williams seat

Robert Kubica's father, Arthur, has insisted that everyone in the camp of the driver is still backing his son to claim the last driver spot for the 2018 Formula One season with Williams even if it looks likely at the moment that Sergey Sirotkin will get the nod.

Kubica is aiming to make a miraculous comeback in F1 having lost part of his forearm in a rally accident a few years ago. He has already tested with Williams and impressed when doing so, but there is speculation that Sirotkin will be named as the last 2018 driver on Friday.

Despite this, Arthur Kubica has revealed that until the announcement is made, there is still hope.

"We're still fighting to get Robert into Williams," said Kubica senior to Sportowe Fakty.

"We hope that it is a good decision for us. And if it is not made before Christmas, it means that at least the people at Williams are taking time to think."

"We are taking steps to convince them to believe in Robert."

Sirotkin reportedly has huge financial backing due to ties in Russia and Arthur Kubica has lamented the possibility that this could play a part in the decision rather than ability.

"Of course it is about what the driver will bring to the team," he continued.

"Sometimes, skills, experience and the potential of the driver are decisive, at others only the money counts."
