Hamilton: F1 makes people fall asleep

Lewis Hamilton reckons that the current state of Formula 1 races will likely make viewers go to sleep between the excitement of the opening lap and the final laps to see who wins, and thinks the sport organisers should try some radical changes to improve the action mid-race.

Although F1 bosses are keen to make some alterations to the sport in the coming years, they have been focusing their attention on qualifying rather than the Grand Prix.

Hamilton laments the fact that every GP weekend is the same, and has proposed a "super weekend" event to shake things up, saying the current product will make fans doze off.

"I think one of the biggest changes that needs to be made is that at the moment it is the same four days, every weekend, for 21 weekends every single year pretty much," the Brit said.

"I think it needs to be dynamic. It needs to be different for certain circuits so you have a 'super weekend'. There are some tracks where the race is so boring.

"I remember growing up watching [F1] and falling asleep after the start. I am sure there are people who fall asleep after the start and wake up when they set their alarms for the end.

"I used to do it when I was younger, and there were some tracks that kept you on the edge of your seat, like I imagine Baku this year."

Hamilton wants to target the races which have been deemed to be dull in the past, as the current cars on the grid are the best ever and should be providing excitement.

"I think it is more exciting this year, being in these cars is the best it has ever been," the 2018 championship leader continued.

"But I am sure there are still dull races.

"So picking those ones out and saying, how can we make it different for that race? Whether it is reverse grid or whatever we end up doing, they should look into doing that."
