Ricciardo 'pissed' at Red Bull's latest failure

A hoarse Daniel Ricciardo was left feeling "pissed" after mechanical failure ruined his qualifying effort at the Japanese Grand Prix. Ricciardo qualified 15th at Suzuka after losing power during Q2 – his fifth failure to reach the top-10 shootout in seven races.

The Australian's Red Bull career is ending with something of a whimper as he battles almost constant mechanical issues ahead of his move to Renault.

His fury was clear as he walked up the pitlane, with his helmet still on, and could be heard screaming in anger.

He shouted with enough ferocity to break his voice and the anger was still dripping from him as he reacted to another curtailed session.

"I just blew out my vocals so… yeah, I'm pissed," Ricciardo told Sky Sports.

"I just felt a loss of power out of the last corner and just before I started the lap, so I knew it was something that seemed terminal.

"I just can't catch a break.

"Qualifying's important here, like always, but it's hard to follow and whatever.

"I'll try and do what I can. It's pretty painful at the moment."

Ricciardo's frustration will have only been compounded by seeing Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen benefit from Ferrari's strategy error to take third place on the grid.
