Italian Grand Prix: Starting Grid

One of the most thrilling qualifying sessions in recent memory ended with an almighty shock as Kimi Raikkonen nudged Ferrari team-mate off pole position for the Italian Grand Prix. Thanks to a handy tow from the German, Raikkonen delivered the fastest lap in the history of Formula 1.

Raikkonen blasted around the 'Temple of Speed' at an average pace of 263.587km/h (163.793mph), surpassing the record set by Juan Pablo Montoya at Monza in 2004.

He will have Vettel alongside him off the line at Monza, with Ferrari aiming for a first win on home soil since Fernando Alonso's 2010 triumph.

The Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will hope to hang on from row two as the Briton tries to keep hold of his championship lead over Vettel - standing at 17 points before the race.

Max Verstappen is facing a lonely race in fifth, with Red bull unable to keep pace with the big two but likely to have too much for the likes of Haas, Renault and Force India.

His team-mate Daniel Ricciardo has promised an entertaining afternoon from 19th on the grid after taking engine penalties - Nico Hulkenberg and Marcus Ericsson sandwich the Australian after also taking grid drops.
