MotoGP champion Marquez set for F1 test

MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez is set to be given a chance to show his skills on four wheels, with Red Bull set to hand him a test drive. After completing a mid-season MotoGP test, Marquez shared a picture on Thursday of him getting a seat fitting in an F1 car.

Reports that Marquez would be given the chance to test F1 machinery were first floated this week, with Marquez now appearing to confirm the plan.

According to Motorsport, Marquez's Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa will also get a chance to drive an F1 car, as well as nine-time Motocross world champion Tony Cairoli.

The trio are unlikely to be handed a modern-spec F1 car, although if Red Bull do provide the machinery, it could be a championship-winning era model from Red Bull's dominance of the late V8 era.

Marquez would not be the first motorcycle champion to test an F1 car.

Jorge Lorenzo tested Lewis Hamilton's 2014 title-winning Mercedes in 2016, while MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi has long had ties to Ferrari and was even linked with securing a race seat at the Scuderia in the past.

Rossi extensively tested with Ferrari in 2005 and 2006, but ultimately decided to remain on two wheels.
