Alonso not interested in Toro Rosso performance
Fernando Alonso has little interest in comparing McLaren's results to Toro Rosso's in 2018, despite the Faenza squad's use of Honda engines. Having ditched Honda for Renault power units, McLaren are fourth in the constructors' standings three races into the season.
Alonso has finished in the top 10 in every race so far this season to overtake his 2017 points haul after just three races.
However, Toro Rosso's best result of the season eclipses McLaren's thanks to Pierre Gasly's spectacular run to fourth place at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Either side of that, Toro Rosso have struggled, leaving Alonso unmoved by their Sakhir showing.
His indifference is also held for the spectacular upturn at Ferrari, who are now arguably title favourites and have made steady improvements since his departure in 2015.
"[Bahrain] was a very nice weekend for them," Alonso said of Toro Rosso when asked about their season during the Chinese Grand Prix.
"To be honest, after 18 years in Formula 1, to answer after one good qualifying or one good result from any team makes no sense.
"I've been answering about Ferrari in 2015 and 2016.
"After I left Ferrari, every win, every podium they were achieving, you asked me about if I regretted when I left Ferrari
"After four years Mercedes keep winning and they have four championships and now you are not asking me about Ferrari, you've changed for Toro Rosso.
"Or Renault, in 2005 and 2006 I won two championships with them and now they are competitive again.
"I don't care so much about other teams. It's just funny how people get excited about the ex-teams when they are OK.
"They ask me and I don't care too much."
Alonso is sixth in the drivers' standings on 22 points, level with Renault's Nico Hulkenberg.
