Rosberg becomes Formula E investor

Nico Rosberg has revealed that he has been invested in Formula E for a while now following his retirement from Formula One just over a year ago, with the German-Finn set to get behind the wheel of the new Generation 2 model in a public demonstration in May.

Rosberg won the 2016 Formula One title ahead of his Mercedes team-mate, Lewis Hamilton, only to announce his shock retirement not long after.

When he retired, he told CNN that he felt "fulfilled" with his achievements in F1. bit claimed he would like to remain within motorsport in some capacity.

Now, he is using his name and resources for the good of the environment.

"Since my retirement, I've become very interested in the e-mobility movement and its potential to positively impact our society and our planet.

"I've therefore also long believed in the potential of Formula E and came on board as an investor some time ago."

Founder and CEO of the sport, Alejandro Agag, hailed the partnership as a "special moment" for the motor sport.

"He's such an incredible ambassador for world motorsport and a champion," Agag said of Rosberg.

"So it's also another fantastic endorsement for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship to have Nico as an investor and shareholder of Formula E."

Not only will Rosberg be a named investor, but he is set to get behind the wheel again, even if it is in a public relations role during a public demonstration of the new Gen2 vehicle.

He has spoken of his excitement of testing out the impressive new design in front of his home fans in Germany.

"I'm really excited to get behind the wheel of the Gen2 car," said Rosberg. "It will be great to experience this high-performance e-mobility car and let's see if I still have it in me!"

"It makes it even more special that I'm able to do this at the Berlin E-Prix, as I've always loved racing in my home country, Germany."
