Raikkonen mechanic suffers broken leg after horror pit-stop smash

Ferrari have said the mechanic run over by Kimi Raikkonen during a pit-stop at the Bahrain Grand Prix has suffered a broken leg. Raikkonen had to retire after his stop was botched, with his rear-left tyre not getting replaced before he was released from the pit box.

Watch the incident here. WARNING: Graphic content.

Raikkonen's race was suddenly ended amid shocking scenes, as he drove off while the mechanic was still examining the tyre which ahd not been removed.

The FIA may well have quesitons for the Scuderia, who also had a stop go wrong during Ferrari practice.

With Raikkonen's car prone in the pitlane, the Force India of Esteban Ocon almost crashed as he came into the pits for a service.

The team were also tending to the stricken mechanic, named Francesco, and Raikkonen was unsure why he had been cleared to leave the pits when it was clearly unsafe.

"I don't know what shape he is in. For sure it is not great for him," Kimi said.

"I go when the light is green. I don't see what happens behind and unfortunately he got hurt.

"My job is to go when the light changes. More than that I don't know. Hopefully he is OK.

"We didn't finish the race so it's not great but this is what happens unfortunately."
