Perez impressed by Newey "racing driver" communication

Sergio Perez has described talking to Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey like "talking to a racing driver".

Away from his duties with the team, Newey has a sizeable collection of classic racing cars and has taken part himself in events such as the Historic Monaco Grand Prix and the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Appreciating the time Newey has spent on both the pit wall and in the driver's seat, Perez compared talking to the 62-year-old to talking to a racing driver.

He said: "The amount of communication he has with the driver, he understands what you are talking about like a driver. It is like talking to a racing driver."

Perez was also impressed by the design method of Newey, who is famous for continuing to work with a pencil and a drawing board rather than using modern CAD software.

"You do it all by yourself in here?" asked an amazed Perez.

Reflecting on his first encounter with Newey, the man behind 10 constructors' championship-winning Formula 1 cars - five with Williams, four with Red Bull and one with McLaren - he said: "I'm very, very impressed to get that from Adrian

"To see his big drawing machine there, I was very impressed. All the times you cross through his office, he is always drawing something."
