Pirelli boss becomes latest F1 casualty of Covid-19

Pirelli boss Mario Isola has become the latest high-profile Formula 1 figure to test positive for Covid-19.

Isola was discovered to have contracted the disease following a test undertaken after the Turkish Grand Prix.

As per F1's strict guidelines, Isola is now self-isolating. It remains to be seen if he will be in a position to take up his regular duties for the next race in Bahrain across the weekend of November 27-29.

A Pirelli statement read: "The FIA, Formula 1 and Pirelli can confirm that Pirelli Head of F1 and Car Racing Mario Isola tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday 15 November at the Turkish Grand Prix.

"Mario returned a positive result during the regular Sunday COVID testing schedule.

"He is now isolating, and is asymptomatic and will adhere to the local medical guidelines.

"All close contacts have been declared, retested, and no further positive cases have been returned."

Racing Point drivers Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll have tested positive this season, along with team owner Lawrence Stroll.

Mercedes also had a number of trackside personnel return positive results ahead of the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nürburgring that forced the team to fly out staff to assist through the weekend.
