Renault has "potential" if it can improve in high-speed corners - Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo has called on Renault to deliver greater performance through Formula 1's high-speed corners in a bid to close the gap to its rivals.
Ricciardo matched the best result of his Renault career to date by finishing fourth in Sunday's British Grand Prix, albeit aided by the late tyre failures for Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas and McLaren's Carlos Sainz.
While Ricciardo has seen an improvement in this season's R.S.20 compared to last year's car, it still has an area of weakness to improve upon if he is to be regularly fighting at the front of the midfield.
"I think we have certainly improved," said Ricciardo. "I would put emphasis on the area we have improved the most [which] is the rear of the car, on power, on traction. Maybe the low-medium speed corners.
"I still feel there is a bit to gain in the high speed, and I think we see that more evidently on one lap, so in qualifying."
Taking Silverstone, in particular, into account as it will be used again for this weekend's 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, Ricciardo added: "I guess there is turn nine, Copse.
"I think all the top guys are doing that full, quite easy full throttle, but for us, it is much more on the edge.
"I think the high speed is still an area to focus on. I think we have built a better base in the low-medium speeds with the rear so that is positive."
As to whether Renault can push Racing Point and McLaren on a regular basis, Ricciardo said: "How much more can we keep going and getting more lap time out of it? I am probably not the guy to ask.
"But I think that has been good. I would put emphasis on high speed. If we can get that, I think we have got a lot of potential."
