Sainz - McLaren were forced to make "tough decisions"
Carlos Sainz has hailed McLaren for making "tough decisions" which has led to him taking a pay cut to help protect the futures of team personnel.
To try to offset the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Sainz and team-mate Lando Norris, along with a number of senior figures, including CEO Zak Brown and team principal Andreas Seidl, all agreed to take pay cuts.
The McLaren Group has also placed considerable numbers of its staff on the UK government's furlough scheme, whereby they are no longer required to work but they will receive 80% of their pay up to £2,500 and are guaranteed to return to their jobs when the crisis is over.
Expressing his sentiments on the subject, via his Twitter feed, Sainz said: "Due to the impact of COVID19, the McLaren Group has adopted difficult temporary measures regarding its staff to hopefully protect jobs in the long term.
"I fully understand these tough decisions and I have obviously decided to take a pay cut. We are all in this together."
F1 has so far cancelled the Australian and Monaco GPs, with six other races postponed. With further races expected to fall by the wayside, there is no sign as yet as to when the sport will return to action.
