Verstappen: Hamilton battle more satisfying

Max Verstappen said battling Lewis Hamilton for the lead of the Brazilian Grand Prix was more satisfying than taking on another driver from lower on the grid.

Verstappen was largely dominant at Interlagos, but still had to pass Hamilton twice over the course of the race.

Having been held up by Robert Kubica in the pit-lane, Verstappen soon blasted past Hamilton at Turn 1, the same spot he made a move stick after the safety-car restart prompted by Valtteri Bottas' retirement.

Scraps on-track between Verstappen and Hamilton haven't been that common over the years, and Verstappen was excited to take on the world champion.

"It was good. If you can battle against the world champion it's always more satisfying than battling someone for P10 or whatever," he said.

"I think it was a good battle and we gave each other enough room. Just enough. But I think it was cool.

"Immediately at the restart I had a good tow off Lewis and went around the outside.

"We had a good battle in Turn 1 and again in Turn 4.

"Then you could see that the tyre advantage really helped me of course and we could stay in first and control the race."
