Schumacher expects Hamilton to break F1 records

Ralf Schumacher expects Lewis Hamilton will continue breaking the Formula 1 records laid down by his brother Michael in the years to come.

Hamilton has already surpassed the German great's tally of pole positions, extending the record to unprecedented levels.

He is now just one world title behind Schumacher's record tally, having secured his sixth world crown in 2019, while Hamilton needs to win just nine more races to move past the benchmark of 91 grand prix wins that Michael retired with.

His brother, the former Williams and Jordan racer, has little doubt that Hamilton will continue his levels of success in the years to come and become F1's greatest driver, statistically speaking at least.

"Both of them achieved something incredible," he told Auto Bild. "I think Lewis can break Michael's records now.

"He always gets the maximum from the opportunities. Everything fits together with him.

"He has the experience, he has a crazy natural talent, he knows when to attack and when to sit back, and he feels extremely comfortable in his team. He knows he is the absolute number one.

"That creates trust and is very good for a driver. He probably doesn't make many mistakes because of that."

Hamilton's dominance has put extra scrutiny on the performances of his rivals, particularly Sebastian Vettel.

The Ferrari driver lose out to the Mercedes man in 2018's title race amid errors on-track and from the pit wall, but Schumacher points out Hamilton's role to play in forcing them.

"You make mistakes when you feel the pressure like that," Schumacher added. "Look at Montreal. He sensed that Lewis was getting closer and lost his focus for a moment.

"Lewis and Mercedes are the best at dealing with pressure. Toto Wolff has put all the right people around them."
