Ricciardo frustrated with British GP result
Daniel Ricciardo admits the British Grand Prix on Sunday left him feeling slightly frustrated, as he failed to close the gap on, and then eventually get beyond, Carlos Sainz into P6.
The Australian started on P7 on the grid at Silverstone and was embroiled in a battle with Lando Norris of McLaren early on, but both drivers saw their race negatively affected by the safety car period which was introduced after the retirement of Antonio Giovinazzi.
Sainz benefited, though, and rose up to P6 which was the target of Ricciardo.
“I was busy for the most part, I think at the end it was frustrating. I had a bit of pace on Carlos [Sainz], but they were quite quick with the traction,” he outlined.
“Through the high-speed I got close but never close enough to get him.
“The few times I was close it was into Turn 15 and unless you are really there with your nose it’s hard to brake right into the corner so I couldn’t really lunge.

“At the beginning I had a few good battles with Lando – the Safety Car hurt myself and Lando and Carlos benefited so we had to try and come back through.
Ricciardo reckons, though, that the team has improved enough over the past few weeks that they can be content with the weekend overall.
“The restart was good, picked a few cars off, and then hunted down Carlos,” the Renault man added.
“Sixth would have been sweeter, but I think where we were a couple of weeks ago, seventh and tenth for the team is not a bad day.”
