Monger takes incredible maiden single-seater victory
Billy Monger secured his maiden race victory in single-seaters, and first since suffering life-changing injuries in 2017 as he came from the back of the field to win at EuroFormula Open's Pau Grand Prix. A gamble on wet-weather tyres made the difference for Monger in France, as he survived a late safety car to take a memorable win.
Monger and his Carlin team opted to ditch slicks on the warm-up lap as rain began to fall, dropping the Briton from 11th on the grid to the back of the field.
However, Monger charged through the field in double quick time and found himself in the lead when Motopark pair Julian Hanses and Liam Lawson collided ahead - both fitted with slick tyres.
That incident also prompted the safety car to come out, wiping out the advantage Monger had built over the field.
However, he maintained his advantage over Carlin team-mate Nicolai Kjaergaard in second, who himself had to fight off a late charge from Motopark’s Yuki Tsunoda.

Monger's victory was Carlin's 399th across all forms of motorsport and they clocked up 400 a matter of minutes later as Zane Maloney took victory in British Formula 4 at Thruxton.
