Mick Schumacher will make his first appearance in an official Formula 1 session, by taking part in the young drivers' test slated to follow the Bahrain Grand Prix, according to reports. Auto Bild has reported that Schumacher Jr will drive for Alfa Romeo in the two-day event.

European Formula 3 champion Schumacher will be at the Bahrain Grand Prix as it will include the opening round of the Formula 2 season, which will see the 20-year-old compete from Prema.

Schumacher's only previous experience of driving F1 machinery was a test of his father's championship-winning Benetton B194 at Spa-Francorchamps in 2017.

The German has signed to the Ferrari Driver Academy for 2019, likely facilitating his Alfa test as the two teams have forged closer ties since the beginning of last season.

Those bonds saw Charles Leclerc debut with the since-renamed Sauber outfit before joining Ferrari for 2019 – a career path many have tipped Schumacher for if he can maintain momentum following last year's F3 title win at the expense of highly touted Red Bull prospect Dan Ticktum.

Schumacher has also been tipped to drive a Ferrari for the first time later this year in F1's in-season tests.
